During Trump’s first term (I can’t believe I have to say first term), I was involved in the Tiny Pricks Project.  After many years of no embroidery, it gave me an outlet to be creative and vent and document the ridiculous words and tweets of the president.  For example, clean your floors (in response to the Paradise fire), we’re building a wall in Colorado, don’t be afraid of Covid, etc, etc…a never-ending supply of material.  This lead me to Stitching the Situation.  When Heather dropped off my block and I saw how big it was (approx 18” x 18”), I was a bit intimidated, but I’m one of those people who like to finish projects.  Little did I know it would take me 3 years and 7 months to complete, minus a couple of breaks to knit baby sweaters.  During the pandemic, and living alone, I was quite depressed about staying home, all the hard work of the medical profession, the doubt and fear, and the lonely suffering and deaths.  I wanted my block to be something positive, something about hope, and once President Biden was elected, I started feeling that hope. And then I saw the photo of the February 22, 2021 ceremony at the White House, I knew I wanted to stitch it.  It already had many shades of blue so that was helpful.  Many many hours of stitching while watching HGTV, the Olympics, the news, any and every show on TV.  It was both rewarding and satisfying.  It’s difficult to hand off a piece that I’ve put so much time into creating, but that was my commitment and I look forward to seeing where this project goes.  Thank you Heather for the monthly zoom/stitch ins and for leading this project, and thank you President Biden for leading us out of the darkness of Covid-19.
